Electrical Safety – Training/Authorization Program

It is the responsibility of the site engineers and supervisors to ensure that people who carry out electrical work are not given duties outside their knowledge, or experience, and that they are competent in completing electrical work.  Therefore, the following criteria for training and definition of a qualified (authorized) person are to be followed:

Low Voltage (LV) Electrical Work:  120 volts A.C.  Or less, 20 amp circuits or less

  1. Knowledge of electricity
  2. Electrical safety training at least every two years.
  3. Understanding of hazards that can arise, and the precautions to take.
  4. Understand the methods and procedures used to isolate the circuits safely.

Low Voltage (LV) Electrical Work: 120-600 volts A.C., 250 amp circuits or less

  1. Electrical safety training every two years.
  2. Industrial electrical training ( At least basic technical school training)
  3. Knowledge of national electrical code.
  4. Understanding of hazards that can arise, and precautions to take.
  5. Understand the methods and procedures used to isolate the circuits safely.
  6. State-certified journeyman’s license or at least 5 years experience working with industrial electrical installations 220 V.A.C. or greater.

High Voltage (HV) Electrical Work:  Above 600 volts A.C.

  1. Electrical safety training every two years.
  2. Industrial electrical training
  3. Knowledge of national electrical code.
  4. Understanding of hazards that can arise, and precautions to take.
  5. Understand the methods and procedures used to isolate the circuits safely.
  6. State-certified Master Electrician license
  7. 10 years experience working with industrial electrical installations 600 V.A.C. or greater.
