Slime and Children’s Safety – Should You be Concerned?

March 30, 2017 New York, NY – Slime. the hottest new toy for children, is not even a toy at all. Slime, produced by an interaction of Borax, water, and Elmer’s Glue has become one of the biggest goo-filled sensations virtually overnight.

Yet, parents are concerned, since the use of harmful chemicals to make these gooey products could have very nasty side effects, as is the case of some children receiving second to third degree burns from the chemicals exposed within Borax.

Borax, formally known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate, is an important boron compound, a mineral, and a salt of boric acid, which is used primarily as a laundry detergent.

Recently, there has been a spike in the sales of Elmer’s Glue in addition to children who have suffered severe burns from these chemicals. As Siobhan Quinn retold ABC News how her 11-year-old daughter, Kathleen was affected, “She was crying in pain, ‘My hands hurt, my hands hurt,’” Quinn said in an interview with ABC’s Boston affiliate, WCVB, on Monday. “When we looked at them, they were covered in blisters.”

Parents should be aware of the precautions of the slime-craze and be attentive to how your children form these slimy creations. For more information on Borax slime or this particular case please visit:
