EXP, a leading provider of enterprise Quality Health Safety and Environmental (QHS&E) Management software, and Firmenich, the world’s largest privately owned flavor and fragrance company, forged a long-term business partnership beginning in 2005 to facilitate best in class performance of Firmenich’s sustainability and corporate responsibility initiatives.

EXP-Firmenich partnership has driven both companies to achieve higher levels of QHS&E management and to pioneer effective sustainability recording and reporting practices. In January 2015, Firmenich was recognized by CDP and confirmed its position as a thought leader in sustainability and environmental management by entering the CDP Global Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index (SCPLI). With a Climate Performance Score, at the highest level of Band A (up from Band D in 2012) and a Disclosure Score at 99/100 (up from 74 in 2012), Firmenich ranks among the top global organizations represented in the CDP Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index.

Firmenich set strategic sustainability goals in 2010, which include a commitment to halve the rate of occupational injuries/ill health,  reduce total energy use, CO₂ emissions, VOC emissions, and water use, and to partially power 90% of their manufacturing facilities by renewable energy.  Using EXP software has provided Firmenich a clear grasp on their progress towards their strategic sustainability goals and helped them implement improvement initiatives on a continuous basis. EXP’s state of the art software supports the accuracy and transparency of Firmenich’s environmental reporting related to sustainability goals, client reporting needs and external audits. The software provides customized reporting templates to be fully compatible with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and CDP. While Firmenich has made solid progress towards their goals, they strive to continue on the path of excellence, which is why they continue to utilize the latest versions of EXP software. EXP’s ongoing updates to the software have increased accuracy and transparency of Firmenich’s environmental reporting by providing additional customized reporting capabilities, and project tracking.

In 2013 the National Safety Council awarded Firmenich the Robert W. Campbell Award for integration of EH&S Management into business operations. The implementation of EXP’s integrated management system (IMS) improved Firmenich’s safety and environmental reporting and investigation and corrective action tracking. EXP’s IMS has facilitated management’s ability to drive continuous improvement.  Firmenich has achieved a 94% decrease in lost time cases and 89% decrease in total recordable cases since partnering with EXP.

The Business to Business partnership has not only helped Firmenich improve their EHS performance, but, by providing a test bed for EXP’s new concepts, features, functionality and best practices, it has also helped EXP extend and perfect its software products. The result of EXP-Firmenich collaboration has now set the standard for the industry as a whole.  Other leaders in the industry are now following the lead of EXP and Firmenich by implementing new initiatives to change their sustainability culture. EXP has been a trusted advisor and vital business partner to Firmenich, continuing to develop software and services that track and report their initiatives, as well as helping identify areas of continuous improvement.
